Help Us Build a Stronger Shield for Our Community

The Yarmouth Police Foundation has launched STRONGER SHIELD, a capital campaign to establish an officer training complex at the Yarmouth Police headquarters in West Yarmouth, MA. The facility is the first of its kind on Cape Cod, enabling law enforcement officers and K-9 teams to train in realistic environments in a dedicated/secure outdoor area behind YPD headquarters.

The complex was named the Sgt. Sean M. Gannon K-9/Police Officer Training Facility and dedicated in honor of Sgt. Sean Gannon who was murdered in the line of duty on April 12, 2018 while serving an arrest warrant in the Town of Barnstable. Sergeant Gannon was an eight-year veteran of YPD. He was also a part of the Emergency Management Unit, a part-time member of the Proactive Anti-Crime Team, and was the first K-9 narcotics officer for YPD. Gannon’s canine partner, Nero, was also shot and has recovered from his wounds. Sean Gannon was posthumously promoted to Sergeant.

“Officer safety is increased through consistent and professional drills, together with an adequate training infrastructure” explained Chief Frederickson.

The police are the crucial link in the nation’s system of crime control and the local agency of government on duty 24 hours a day to protect lives, homes, and property. Everywhere in the nation, police are the catalyst for community crime prevention efforts.
